PSG Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.
PSG has now won the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate times.
The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.
The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring in the opening stages.
However, Marseille fired two times late to take a surprise advantage. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.
In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.
In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.
The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
